Leonard Gardner is an American author and screenwriter. He was born on August 9, 1933, in Stockton, California. He is best known for his book "Fat City," which was published in 1969 and later adapted into a movie of the same name in 1972 by director John Huston.
Gardner began writing while serving in the military and later attended the Iowa Writers' Workshop. He has written several other books and essays, including "The Nickel Boys," "Bruce Springsteen: On Tour 1968-2005," and "Wild Dogs."
In addition to his writing, Gardner has worked as a screenwriter for films such as "Fighting Mad" and "Leonard Part 6." He has also taught writing at various universities and institutions, including the University of California, Davis, and the California State University, Sacramento.
